7th Dr. Robert F. Kuan Memorial Lecture

October 8, 2025 – The St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine – William H. Quasha Memorial (SLMCCM – WHQM) proudly hosted the 7th Dr. Robert F. Kuan Memorial Lecture, an annual event dedicated to celebrating the legacy of the late former Chairman of the SLMC and SLMCCM Board of Trustees.

The program commenced with the Invocation and National Anthem sung by the SLMCCM-WHQM Chorale, followed by a Welcome Address from Dean and Chief Academic Officer, Maria Isabel M. Atienza, MD, MHPEd. The Memorial Speaker was introduced by Alejandro R. Prieto, MD, an Interventional Cardiologist at St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City.

This year’s Memorial Lecture, titled “Cities that Serve: Inspiring Resilience and Excellence through the BGC Legacy,” was delivered by the esteemed Mr. Carlos “”Charlie”” S. Ruñino, the Dr. Robert F. Kuan Memorial Speaker. Mr. Ruñino’s lecture provided insightful perspectives on upholding the values of service and excellence, reflecting the core principles championed by Dr. Kuan.

The program also featured:
1. The Awarding of the Token of Appreciation to the Memorial Speaker by Dennis P. Serrano, MD, MHA, President and CEO of SLAIC.
2. A Response from the SLMCCM-WHQM Alumni Association delivered by Aliana Chrisel Jimenez Vera Cruz, MD (Batch 2016 Representative, Robert Kuan Scholarship for Leadership Awardee).
3. A special Message from the Kuan Family given by Robert Kelvin Y. Kuan, the son of Dr. Robert F. Kuan.
4. The viewing of a commemorative Video: The Legacy of Dr. Robert F. Kuan.

The ceremony was expertly emceed by Mary Anne V. Tabaquero, MD (SLMCCM-WHQM Batch 2002) and Allan Jay C. Domingo, MD (SLMCCM-WHQM, Batch 2006).

The 7th Dr. Robert F. Kuan Memorial Lecture served as a powerful reminder to the entire Lukan community—students, faculty, and alumni—to continue living out the commitment to servant leadership and social responsibility that defined Dr. Kuan’s impactful life.
