Batch 2029: Blessing of the Stethoscopes
Events | February 9, 2026

On January 30, 2026, St. Luke’s College of Medicine – WHQM Batch 2029 marked a “meaningful turning point” in their medical journey. The Blessing of the Stethoscopes signifies the transition from the lecture hall to the bedside—where students move from foundational sciences to clinical thinking.
The Lessons of the Day:

Integrity First: Dean Maria Isabel Atienza shared her pride in the batch’s unwavering character, affirming that their commitment to integrity is what makes them ready for this milestone.

The Bridge of Healing: Student Elijah Nataniel Erenio reminded his peers that the stethoscope is not a symbol of pride, but a bridge to the patient’s story.

Resilience & History: Guest speaker Dr. Carmelle Joy Baclig traced the stethoscope’s history from René Laennec’s 1816 invention to its modern symbol of post-pandemic renewal, urging the class to lead with “mental fortitude.”

The Commitment: Under the guidance of Fr. Clarke Ford Sacki, the class pledged to see “not just the disease, but the person before us.” Following the Faculty Affirmation by Dr. Marissa Roxas and closing words by Dr. Jane Catan, the students officially donned their stethoscopes to the sound of the College Hymn.
“May this stethoscope remind us that every heartbeat we hear is a life entrusted to us and that every breath we listen to carries hope, fear, and faith.” — Aragon Lorenzo Belza, Class President
Congratulations, Batch 2029!
