The practice of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is formally introduced at the 3rd year level in the Doctor of Medicine program. This training continues on to clinical rotations in ENT- HNS during Internship where students are also acquainted to various surgical procedures in the specialty. Due to its wide scope, the ENT-HNS curriculum has been designed to emphasize only the most commonly encountered ENT-HNS conditions. The faculty of the department streamlined the content to only the most practical for any doctor, whether a Primary Care Physician or a Specialist practicing in various clinical specialties or other health-related fields. By the end of Internship, all graduates are expected to be able to competently diagnose and medically manage the most common ENT-HNS disorders and recognize patients who are in need of further specialty referral .
Despite its seemingly limited scope, the faculty of the Department of ENT-HNS also engages itself in the teaching and training of various patient-related clinical skills and procedural skills in the pre-clinical years under the integrative subjects Foundations of Medicine, Clinical Evaluation and Clinical Integration. Social accountability and service orientation are likewise emphasized by the faculty given the fact that the most common ENT-HNS disorders are also mostly public health concerns.
All members of the faculty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery are Fellows of the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and are acknowledged clinicians, educators and leaders of the specialty.
